disappointing news...

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm extremely sad this evening. The Dark Knight has offically dropped down to sucky number 2 at the box office. Tropic Thunder at number 1. If it wasn't for my love of Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. I'd probably be 10x more pissed but I'll let it go. I plan to see Tropic Thunder next weekend, I hope it's worthy of the number 1 spot, and whats more, worthy of The Dark Knight's place.

Other disappointing entertainment news is of course Harry Potter's been postponed and the gayest book alive Twilight is a movie, and I know 2 out of 3 kids will be vampires this Halloween. The other 1 out of 3 will be the Joker.

But enough movie talk. Let me use this moment to quickly express my love for Siri at Marc by Marc Jacobs:

I'll be doing this every week or so. It's something I call "Hit or Miss". A showcase of 'could anyone pull it off and not get laughed at in public' fashion.

Hit or Miss: Oscar de la Renta Fall 2008:

Miss:

There is nothing that can be done with this skirt. No matter what cute boots and hot blouse you pair it with, it will always look ghetto and always look cheap.

Hit:
Photobucket
The bright blue hue might scare you at first, but if it's combined with a low key black dress and patent black pumps, I see it as a total hit

Hit:
Photobucket
Plum is the perfect color for fall but the leather-like appearance is a little much, but once again using a low key blouse and shoes with some nice (but not too fancy jewelry) could make this a hit instead of a miss

Miss:

I think this is an obvious one...

Hit:

The texture and frills seem overwhelming at first but it's actually really lovely and expensive looking. The color is so beautiful and a pair of black suede boots like seen on the runway complete it perfectly

Hit AND miss:

The skirt is hideous. Did they get the fabric from some 1980's Hawaiian shirt? Anyway, the shoes are SO cute! But are they too cute for anyone over 10 to wear? I don't think so, not unless your skirt is a tutu and your dressed in tons of costume jewelry.

fashion's most wanted. for cheap.

It seems like a lot of fashion editorials pay homage to the skin tight leather leggings which were introduced at Balmain's fall collection. Not to mention the tons of fashion followers who drool over them (almost literally), like myself. But when I saw the price, I was kind of disgusted. Almost $5,000 for a pair of pants?? But I got over the brief moment of disgust quickly. Long story short I never planned on getting the pants anyway, I mean it's Balmain, that stuff isn't cheap so I knew it would be somewhere in the $1,000-$10,000 range. Though just because I wasn't getting that exact pair of pants doesn't mean that I'm not getting a pair that resembles them. Today I bought AA's leather looking leggings, which are quite skanky looking but I've already figured ways to wear them without looking like I just came from working the streets. I'd say $44 is a steal for them, even though they might not have the quality and feel of real $4,728 leather and the beautiful zippers they're still pretty cool.

tres chic

Fall and winter fashions have been really looking up and are much better than last season. Prada was one of my favorites. I liked many of the looks and it's where much of my style inspiration is coming from this season:

This blouse is flawless:

I don't like the blouse with it, but the skirt alone is gorgeous:

It's very Victorian, which I love but it still has a modern edge to it so it's not too nostalgic and costume-y. I can't say much for the make up (or lack thereof) but otherwise the styling is nice. The opposite can be said for Dolce & Gabbana which had good individual pieces but the styling was off and the make up was great:

Now Phillip Lim was great this season as well. He really excelled past his usual grungey looks:

Now the hair this season hasn't been impressive with an exception. Christian Lacroix couture. The make up is also very flattering and pretty:

Very stunning and very chic.

my [somewhat] new favorite models...

Sort of in order:

10.Vlada Roslyakova
9.Gisele Bundchen
8.Sasha Pivovarova
7.Jourdan Dunn
6.Natalia Vodianova
5.Du Juan
4.Jessica Stam
3.Kate Moss
2.Catherine McNeil
1.Lily Donaldson

Okay Gisele, Natalia, Jessica and Kate are kind of a given. Most people pretty much love them and I always have but Lily and Du are models I took for granted. I never noticed how pretty they really are. They both have stunning eyes, perfect skin and pretty, unusual lips.

To me Du is the epitome of elegance and prettiness:

Lily looks like the stereotypical rich bitch but I LOVE her look. It's very retro (like 1940's) and she has extraordinary features:

Unfortunatly most new models aren't as impressive as classics like Lily, Gisele, Natalia and Kate :(

Autumn Cosmetics

Since I don't wear makeup at all most days, I want to start. I don't want to pancake it on though, so I'm just starting with eyeshadows, and lip stuff.

For Halloween, I'm thinking of recreating this look from Alexander McQueen's Fall collection for 2007.

Obviously they used three different colors for eyeshadow (two of which can be seen above), but I'm going with the minty green color since it looks more dramatic. MAC cosmetics has three similar colors, "Aquadisiac", "Surreal", and "Newly Minted" but I think i'm going to go with "Aquadisiac" because it's brighter than "Surreal" but not too bright unlike "Newly Minted" which is almost cheap looking. I'll also need a really heavy eyeliner, though I don't think I'm going to do the extremely dark eyebrows.

So far these are the things I want cosmetics-wise:

-NARS Lip Lacquer in "Eros"

-Urban Decay Poison Ring

-MAC Kohl Eyeliner in "Feline" (black)

- MAC Aquadisiac E/S

This is it for now, I'm sure by the end of the month I'll have a lot of stuff added to this list. I'm kind of unsure about the "Poison Ring" since it's $50, but I love the design and two of the glosses aren't that bad.

zzz

Skin care is probably the most important part of any beauty routine. A usually [beautiful] face that is full of acne and blemishes can look ugly, so I always make sure to cleanse twice a day with a salicylic acid cleanser. Currently I'm using:

I have an oil-free SPF 15 moisturizer by L'oreal that I use on occasion but not as much as I should. The scrub costs around $6.00 and the toner about $4.00 and it really works for my skin, so why pay expensive prices? I need to get a cream cleanser though because the scrub will be too rough on my skin and a new sunscreen/moisturizer with a higher SPF because I have very fair skin:

I'm looking at old Natalia pictures right now on www.herfamedgoodlooks.com, she was and is so gorgeous! Definietly in my top ten at the moment.

Anyway here is a new set I made on Polyvore, my inspiration for how I'd like to dress this season:

I LOVE anything with lace. I think it's so girly and classy. I really would love to get the Stam bag but that's way out of my budget...

Can't wait for the new Harry Potter movie to come out! Oh and for the next Batman movie, I really hope Johnny Depp does get the role as the Riddler, that would be perfect.
